COMMITTEES AND WAYS TO GET INVOLVED:

The way to make the downtown area a vibrant and economically successful area is by utilizing the talents and time of those interested in the success of the area. If you are willing to help with one of the following committees, please email dtaiowacity@gmail.com and we'll follow-up with you!

Downtown Iowa City consists of an unusually high number of unique and locally owned businesses. Such businesses and their owners are dedicated to maintaining this vibrant and economically successful area. DTA offers many ways to utilize the talents of their members, and participation need not take more than a couple of hours a month. If you are willing to help with one of the following committees, please email dtaiowacity@gmail.com and we'll follow-up with you. Members with specific projects are also encouraged. Committees include Marketing, Membership, Communication and Events Coordination.

  1. Marketing
Marketing is at the heart of what a Downtown Association can do best for its membership. The Marketing Committee's primary task is developing a comprehensive marketing plan for the next calendar year. The Committee also develops ideas for retail focused promotional activities such as Sidewalk Sale. It coordinates the development and distribution of DTA brochures and general marketing pieces, such as one promoting dining and entertainment options in the downtown area. Want to help? Email us at dtaiowacity@gmail.com.
  2. Membership
The Membership committee develops plans for membership recruitment, benefits and retention. It coordinates membership mixers and other educational enrichment opportunities. Want to help? Email us at dtaiowacity@gmail.com.
  3. Communication
The Communications Committee assists with newsletter articles and reviews the website for updates. It sends out blast e-mails and announcements to members and updates the calling tree which keeps members informed. Want to help? Email us at dtaiowacity@gmail.com.
  4. Special Events
This Committee develops special events such as the Progressive Dinner, Spring Kickoff and holiday activities. DTA developed the much loved Friday Night Concert Series, which is now part of The Summer of the Arts. This committee helps to coordinate awareness of art and cultural activities in downtown to improve visibility of these events. Have an idea? Want to help? Email us at dtaiowacity@gmail.com.
